Principal and Office Leader
Michelle Johnson is a Principal in the Executive Workforce Practice at Sullivan, Cotter and Associates, Inc. As a strategic advisor to the health care industry for over 15 years, Michelle helps pediatric, academic and community-based health systems keep their leadership strategies and compensation aligned with their mission, vision and values, while staying ahead of the changing marketplace challenges.
Her experience includes:
- Designing leadership strategies to identify top talent, nurture stable executive teams and create accountability for business success and high levels of performance.
- Helping organizations determine where and how to build talent, preserving culture, retaining critical knowledge and ensuring return on people investments.
- Facilitating boards, committees and senior leaders to design executive compensation and incentive plans with meaningful goals that link pay to performance and establish governance guidelines that make sense and deliver fairness.
- Improving team-based leadership practices and establishing common performance standards in large, complex health systems to achieve consistency, efficiency, continuity of care and economic targets.
Prior to joining SullivanCotter, Michelle worked at a national consulting firm specializing in executive compensation in the health care industry. She is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and WorldatWork.
Michelle also is a periodic speaker at industry conferences and has written a number of thought leadership pieces. She was a featured author in the American Hospital Association’s Center for Healthcare Governance Monograph Series: Aligning Executive Compensation with the New Health Care Paradigm: What the Board Needs to Know.
Michelle earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. She graduated summa cum laude, with All College Honors.
