Michelle Johnson is a Principal at Sullivan, Cotter and Associates, Inc. For over 10 years, Michelle has consulted with not-for-profit health care organizations on compensation matters for executives, clinical leaders and middle-management positions. Her experience includes working with community hospitals, integrated delivery systems, academic medical centers and pediatric institutions.
Michelle routinely advises boards and compensation committees on the impact of governance reform initiatives and works closely with legal counsel to ensure the board’s compensation decision-making process complies with the requirements of federal tax law.
Michelle has managed a wide variety of projects, and her work encompasses all aspects of compensation, including salaries, variable pay programs, broad-based benefits, supplemental benefits and retirement programs. She has also worked closely with organizations in adding or modifying special compensation programs, including success sharing plans, paid time off programs and discretionary bonus plans.
For a number of organizations, Michelle provides the annual report on compensation to the full board and conducts periodic educational sessions for program participants. She was a guest speaker at the Children’s Hospital Association’s HR Forum in 2012, where she presented “Executive and Physician Compensation: Trends and Preparing for Increased Scrutiny.”
Michelle earned a Bachelor of Arts from the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. She graduated summa cum laude, with all college honors.
