2010 Physician On-Call Pay Survey

SullivanCotter has launched its data collection efforts for the 2010 Physician On-Call Pay Survey. Last year's survey report contained data from more than 140 organizations representing over 1,900 on-call providers.

The 2010 survey collects data on current and emerging organizational on-call pay practices as well as the restricted and unrestricted on-call pay rates for over 40 physician specialties and physician extenders.

Partial list of physician specialties surveyed:

  • Anesthesiology
  • Cardiology-General and Interventional
  • General Surgery
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine
  • Neurology and Stroke Neurology
  • Neurosurgery (1st and 2nd Call)
  • Ob/Gyn (1st and 2nd Call)
  • Orthopedic Surgery-General and Hand
  • Otolaryngology
  • Plastic Surgery-General and Hand
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Primary Care
  • Trauma Surgery
  • Urology
  • And many more physician specialties

Also surveying MLPs, such as CRNAs and Physician Assistants

On-Call pay rates will be reported by:

  • Specialty
  • Type of call
    • Restricted (must remain on premises)
    • Unrestricted (must be available within a specified amount of time)
  • Trauma versus non-trauma center
  • Trauma versus general emergency department call
  • Regional breakouts for combined specialties
    • Medical specialties
    • Surgical specialties
    • Pediatric medicine specialties
    • Pediatric surgical specialties
    • Primary care
    • Primary Care Remote Location/Critical Access

On-Call pay practices will be reported by:

  • Employed physicians
  • Non-employed physicians (i.e., those with admitting privileges)

2010 Survey Schedule

  • Questionnaire distributed: July 2010
  • Data effective date: July 1, 2010
  • Data submission deadline: August 23, 2010
  • Report publication: November 2010

2010 Survey Costs

  • Participants: COMPLIMENTARY
  • Healthcare Non-Participants: $450
  • Non-Healthcare Organizations: $750
